What to know about BMW batteries
48V mild hybrid models
Many BMWs from about 2020 add a 48V battery and starter-generator. The 12V AGM battery is still there and still ages the same way in heat. We replace the 12V side, while 48V faults belong in a workshop with BMW diagnostics.
Battery sits in the boot
On most BMW saloons and SUVs the battery is under the boot floor or behind the right-hand trim. Jump-start posts are under the bonnet: a red-capped positive terminal and an earth stud. Front-wheel-drive based models such as the newer X1 keep it under the bonnet.
Does the M4 need battery registration?
