On most BMW saloons and SUVs the battery is under the boot floor or behind the right-hand trim. Jump-start posts are under the bonnet: a red-capped positive terminal and an earth stud. Front-wheel-drive based models such as the newer X1 keep it under the bonnet.

The Intelligent Battery Sensor clamps onto the negative post and measures current, voltage and temperature. The car uses those readings to set charging voltage and decide when to shut down comfort functions. It is fragile, so the terminal has to come off carefully during a swap.
Does the M5 need battery registration?
A new BMW battery is registered with a diagnostic tool so the car resets its charging history. A change of capacity or type, such as 80 to 95 Ah, also needs coding. Before dispatch we confirm whether registration is included.

A BMW M5 typically takes an AGM or EFB battery, in the range DIN 60 – DIN 80 (L2–L4). Later M5 model years have start-stop and energy recovery, which need an AGM or EFB battery. Earlier ones take a standard maintenance-free unit. The label on your current battery tells us which.
Can you replace a M5 battery where it is parked?

Does the M5 need battery registration?

How long does a M5 battery last in the UAE?
