What to know about BYD batteries
The label settles the type
Earlier BYD models and some hybrids use an ordinary 12V lead-acid battery that we replace like any other. We cannot tell the type reliably from the model name alone, because it changed over the years. A photo of the 12V battery label settles it.
A 12V lithium unit
BYD moved many recent models from lead-acid to a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery with its own management electronics. It is designed for a much longer service life but cannot be swapped for a generic lead-acid battery at the roadside. We confirm what your car has before dispatch.
Does the e1 need battery registration?
Models with the 12V lithium battery manage it through built-in electronics, so replacement is a workshop job done with the correct part for that car. BYDs with a lead-acid auxiliary battery are replaced like for like at the car.

Which battery does a BYD e1 take?
A BYD e1 typically takes a maintenance-free flooded battery, in the range DIN 45 – DIN 60 / NS40 – NS60. The e1 takes a sealed maintenance-free battery. In Gulf heat the things that matter are the correct case size, enough capacity for the AC and accessories, and a recent manufacture date.
Can you replace a e1 battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the e1 need battery registration?
It depends on the year and specification. Versions with a battery sensor or start-stop need the new battery registered or the monitoring reset. Tell us the model year and we confirm before dispatch whether it applies and whether it is included.
How long does a e1 battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
What should I send you before booking for a BYD?
Send the model, year, your location and a photo of the 12V battery label if you can see it without removing covers. Leave anything marked high voltage alone. With that we can tell you plainly if this is a roadside job or one for the dealer, before anyone drives out.
