Lithium 12 V on many models
Cars such as the 570S and 720S left the factory with a lithium-ion 12 V battery. It needs a lithium-compatible charger and cannot be replaced with a standard lead-acid unit at the roadside. We confirm by model before dispatch.
Keep the charger connected
McLaren supplies a battery charger with the car, and the battery sits at the front under the luggage compartment trim. Plugging in whenever the car will be parked for more than a week avoids most flat-battery calls.
Does the GTS need battery registration?
A lithium battery has its own management electronics, and replacing one is a job for McLaren diagnostics. On models with a lead-acid battery the change is simpler. We tell you which applies before we come.

Which battery does a McLaren GTS take?
A McLaren GTS typically takes a maintenance-free flooded or EFB or AGM battery, in the range DIN 70 – DIN 100 (L3–L5). Most GTS cars take a maintenance-free battery. Versions with auto start-stop need EFB or AGM instead. If your engine switches off at traffic lights, tell us and we bring the right type.
Can you replace a GTS battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the GTS need battery registration?
It depends on the year and specification. Versions with a battery sensor or start-stop need the new battery registered or the monitoring reset. Tell us the model year and we confirm before dispatch whether it applies and whether it is included.
How long does a GTS battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
Can you jump-start a McLaren with a lithium battery?
Often yes, using the correct points and a regulated booster. A lithium battery that has dropped very low can switch itself off to protect its cells, and then a jump will not bring it back. We test first and tell you plainly.
