What to know about Tesla batteries
Lead-acid or lithium-ion
Model S and Model X built before the 2021 refresh, and Model 3 and Model Y built before roughly the end of 2021, use a 12V lead-acid battery. Later cars use a lithium-ion low-voltage battery. The touchscreen lists the type under Software, Additional Vehicle Information.
The car warns you first
A Tesla normally shows an alert asking you to schedule service or replace the low-voltage battery before it fails. The car keeps driving for a while after the alert appears. Acting on it early is far easier than dealing with a locked, dark car.
Does the Model Y need battery registration?
Lead-acid Teslas generally accept a new 12V battery without coding, and the alert usually clears once the car has re-tested it. The lithium-ion low-voltage battery is a Tesla-supplied part that is replaced through Tesla service, not at the roadside.

Which battery does a Tesla Model Y take?
The Tesla Model Y usually takes a maintenance-free flooded battery, most often 85B24LS (45 Ah). This is the fitment most Model Y cars in the Gulf leave the factory with. Engine and model year can change it, so we match it to the label on your current battery before dispatch.
Can you replace a Model Y battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the Model Y need battery registration?
It depends on the year and specification. Versions with a battery sensor or start-stop need the new battery registered or the monitoring reset. Tell us the model year and we confirm before dispatch whether it applies and whether it is included.
How long does a Model Y battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
Can you jump-start a Tesla?
A Tesla with a flat low-voltage battery can be woken from an external supply connected at its jump post, after which the main pack recharges the small battery through the converter in the car. This does not charge the main pack. If the main pack is empty the car needs a charger or recovery, not a jump.
