What to know about Volkswagen batteries
EFB or AGM by engine
Start-stop Volkswagens with smaller engines often leave the factory with EFB, while GTI, R and V6 models usually get AGM. Gulf-spec cars built without start-stop commonly run a flooded battery. An AGM car must stay AGM, and an EFB car should get EFB or better.
Touareg battery under the seat
On earlier Touareg generations the main battery is under the front left seat, and some engines add a second battery in the boot. The seat has to be moved to reach it, so the job takes longer than on a Golf or Tiguan.
Does the Clasico need battery registration?
Volkswagens with a battery sensor on the negative terminal need the new battery adapted using its BEM code or substitute values. Models without the sensor need nothing. We confirm before dispatch which applies and whether adaptation is included.
