Worth knowing before you choose Camel
Camel sits in the economy tier. For a car you plan to keep for many years, a premium AGM from a European or Korean maker may be the better long-term fit.
Independent long-term results from Gulf conditions are harder to find for Camel than for Varta or Bosch, so there is less evidence to go on.
Camel batteries in Gulf heat
A Camel MF battery is a sealed flooded type, and its EFB and AGM versions are built for cycling, not for temperature. No lead-acid battery is immune to Gulf summers: water loss and grid corrosion both speed up as the bonnet gets hotter. It lasts longest in a car driven daily and parked in shade or a basement.
Who makes Camel batteries
Camel Group started in 1980 in Xiangyang, in the Hubei province of China, and is still headquartered there. It is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and has grown into one of the larger car-battery manufacturers in the world, with several production bases. Lead-acid starter batteries remain the core of the business, alongside newer low-voltage lithium products.
Much of its output goes straight to car factories. The company history published by Camel names Dongfeng as its first car-maker customer and lists later supplier nominations from BMW. Supplying a production line means building to the size and durability specification set by the car maker, which is a different discipline from selling replacement batteries over a counter.
Recycling is the other half of the company. Camel collects used lead-acid batteries and recovers the lead for new ones. For the replacement market the line-up is simple: maintenance-free batteries for conventional cars, EFB for basic start-stop and AGM for start-stop with energy recovery, offered in both JIS and DIN sizes.
