What to know about Honda batteries
Idle-stop needs EFB or AGM
Recent turbo Hondas with idle-stop are built with a stop-start grade battery and a sensor on the negative terminal. A basic flooded battery does not last in that duty. We look for the idle-stop button and the sensor before choosing the replacement.
Dual-mode charging confuses testers
Hondas switch the alternator between a low mode of roughly 12.5 V and a high mode above 14 V depending on electrical load. A low reading with everything switched off is normal. We test with headlights and AC on before judging the charging system.
