Classic Defender battery under seat
The original Defender, built until 2016, keeps its battery in a box under a front seat. The seat base lifts out to reach it. Space in that box is limited, so the replacement has to match the old battery in length and height.
Discovery batteries under bonnet covers
Discovery 3, Discovery 4, LR3 and LR4 carry the battery at the back of the engine bay under a plastic cover. Start-stop versions of the Discovery 4 add a smaller auxiliary battery under the matching cover on the opposite side.
Does the LR4 need battery registration?
The battery monitoring system is reset with a diagnostic tool after fitting, so it stops treating the battery as aged. Classic Defenders and the Discovery 2 have no such system. Before dispatch we confirm if that reset is included.
